# The Force Awakens is Completely Killing It at the Box Office

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, one of my favorite movies of the year, has been in theaters for 15 days and is [already the second highest domestic grossing film of all time](http://deadline.com/2016/01/weekend-box-office-star-wars-force-awakens-hateful-eight-new-years-2016-1201674917/?ref=birchtree.me). $687 million in just over 2 weeks is absolutely insane! Avatar still holds the top spot, but it's only a little ahead at $760 million.

To put this number in perspective, [it took Avatar 10 weeks](http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=weekly&id=avatar.htm&ref=birchtree.me) in theaters to get to where Star Wars is right now. Some projections have it overtaking Avatar's total by next weekend.

Taking Avatar's worldwide gross is going to be a little tougher, as it [currently sits at 7th](http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/?ref=birchtree.me) in that list. Avatar brought in 70% of its total gross overseas and Star Wars is split basically 50/50 at this point.
