[Associated Press: Republican retracts false claim schools placing litter boxes for ‘furry’ students](https://apnews.com/article/nebraska-lincoln-316c87249779706d6d78b58641c4a75e?ref=birchtree.me)

> “They meow and they bark and they interact with their teachers in this fashion,” Bostelman said during legislative debate. “And now schools are wanting to put litter boxes in the schools for these children to use. How is this sanitary?”

This is exactly the sort of thing you saw bandied about 20 years ago when gay people were the target of conservative hate. Hell, [you still see things like it today](https://www.cnn.com/2022/03/28/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-pete-buttigieg-georgia/index.html?ref=birchtree.me). It should go without saying, but Birchtree stands 100% behind LGBTQ communities and individuals.
