# USB-C is the Future

Thunderbolt 3 stands on USB 3.1’s shoulders to deliver speeds of up to 40Gbps, letting you run two 4K displays at 60Hz through just one port. It’s a big vote of confidence for USB-C from Intel, and could encourage more PC makers to adopt the standard

USB-C sounds like the best connector we’ve ever had in mainstream devices. Not only is the USB 3.1 spec pretty damn good, but the fact that Thunderbolt 3 is going to use the exact same connector is huge. While we may look at USB vs. Thunderbolt as a repeat of the USB vs. FireWire battle of the early 2000s, the fact that they’re now using the same connector means you don’t have to choose.
