Fear and the Return to School
Most U.S. parents say it would be risky to send their children back to school in the fall — including a slim majority of Republicans and a staggering nine in 10 Black Americans — in this week's installment of the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index.
I don't have kids, but my wife is a high school teacher and I know quite a few teachers personally. One of them is so unhappy with how their state is handling this that they are thinking of moving to another state ASAP. More of them are looking at other career opportunities that will not require them to throw themselves into an environment basically optimized to get as many people close together as possible.
We absolutely must think about children's safety, but we must not forget the safety of our teachers.
