Snapchat Makes Me Feel Like an Introverted Dinosaur

I just turned 30 a few months ago, and I still feel quite young. I’m mature and my life probably looks relatively “old” to the kids today, but I like to think that I’m keeping up with what’s cool. I still listen to some of the hot bands, which counts for something, right? I do a great job with tech, staying up to date with Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and what games are cool. Everything was going great!

But then this little thing called Snapchat rolled in and ruined everything!

I’ve installed Snapchat on my phone probably a half dozen times at this point and I just don’t get it. I understand that it’s primarily used for sharing images with friends and it’s recently grown into a thing that celebrities and news organizations use. I also know that lenses are a big deal and that they’re making QR codes work which I never thought I’d see happen.

And yet, when I install the app myself, I just don’t get it. I don’t know what to do, I am immediately lost in the interface, and I don’t understand why I don’t just use iMessage or Facebook Messenger to send pictures to people. I also know that there are plenty of people reading this who are thinking “well of course you wouldn’t use iMessage because ______.”

This all brings me to yesterday’s price on BuzzFeed about how teenagers use Snapchat. All I can say is go read this article and your eyes will be opened. These teenagers live in a totally different world than me!

Also, I can’t let this article go by and not at least mention that this teenager had 700 unread text messages on her phone! Maybe it’s the introvert in me talking, but nothing fills me with more stress than the idea of having hundreds of unread texts on my phone. Who wants to be that social?! I guess I’ll just go pick up my AARP card and start having dinner at 4:30 in the afternoon because clearly I’m a dinosaur.
