Zelda Breath of the Wild: My Favorite Game of 2017
When Horizon Zero Dawn came out I felt bad for Zelda. How could Zelda live up to the masterpiece that is Horizon? What a shame that these games were coming out just a few days apart, right? Well yes, but it turned out that not only was Breath of the Wild above to best Horizon

Horizon Zero Dawn: My 2nd Favorite Game of 2017
Holy crap! That’s what I thought to myself countless times while playing Horizon Zero Dawn this year. This game is from Guerrilla Games, who’s previous work entails mostly the Killzone series, which are good games at best, and underwhelming shooters at worst. This is their first attempt at an open world adventure game

Stemworld Dig 2: My 3rd Favorite Game of 2017
As much as putting Resident Evil 7 on this list surprised me, at least I knew what that game was before it came out. Steamworld Dig 2 came out of left field for me, and I am stunned by how head-over-heels I am for this game. I bought this game because it was

Resident Evil 7: My 4th Favorite Game of 2017
I never thought this game would be on this list. I’ve never been a huge Resident Evil fan. RE4 is one of my favorite games of all time, and I think RE0 is a woefully underrated game, but the rest of the series left me mostly feeling nothing at all. I didn’t even

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: My 5th Favorite Game of 2017
As you can likely guess from the title of the post, there are 4 more posts coming in this series.
Mario Kart 8 originally came out for the Wii U in 2014, which means most people never got a chance to play it. Now that the game has been released for the Switch, which means

The Magnificence of Horizon: Zero Dawn
I am only a few hours into the new PlayStation-exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn, but it's already solidified itself as the most visually impressive game I have ever played. Thankfully it has quality gameplay to match, and it has become my early favorite game of 2017. This game is just…wow!

Super Mario Run did well, but how does it compare to high end game launches?
It's being reported that Super Mario Run was downloaded almost 10 million times in its first day. That's a mighty number indeed, and speaks well to Nintendo's powerful position in smartphone gaming if they want to claim it.
Big debuts are important, as anyone who has released something will

What Is a "Video Game" Again?
This is a fascinating read by Jesse Singal on some people's aversion to the "walking simulator" genre of games. The entire piece is quite lengthy, but it's worth your time.
The video-game culture wars seem to be flaring up a bit. Wednesday, Heat Street ran not one but
