Design at Google has Improved so Much

Remember 5-10 years ago when we were asking the question "will Google get better at design faster than Apple can get better at cloud services?" Well, it's 2016 and I think the question is pretty clear, Google is winning this race.

Google's Android operating system has improved dramatically, and Material Design is undoubtedly the best UI language the company has ever created. I think some people who live 100% in the Apple world think Google's design still looks like this:

That's Gmail in 2006, not 2016. Google recently posted this to their design blog:

We developed concepts that utilized some of Google’s new and emerging technologies, while working within our meticulous engineering and performance benchmarks to emphasize intelligence, performance, high craft, and restraint.

And I have to give it to them, they really have come a long way. I still prefer iOS by far to Android, but Android is no longer the design disaster it was years ago. It felt only right to give their design team a quick shout out.
