Fire Sale

Amazon is offering their Fire Phone for a pretty deep discount right now. Obviously the phone as not lit the world on…fire…like Amazon hoped it would and they’re clearing out inventory. This raises 2 questions for many of us:

One, should you buy this as a cheap high end Android phone and flash a custom ROM to make it better? Not really. The XDA page for this phone is pretty sad, with a grand total of ZERO custom ROMs for the device. You can root it and flash the stock ROM, but there’s nothing else. Pretty sad.

Two, is Amazon abandoning the phone market? I think they are going to stick with it. They have a history of releasing terrible-to-average first generation hardware and then persevering until it’s actually pretty good. They did it with the Kindle and they did it with the Fire tablets, and I see no reason why they won’t stick with it for the phone as well.
