On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer. - Iwata at GDC 2005

Nintendo released a very brief statement today to announce the unexpected passing of Nintendo of America CEO, Satoru Iwata. Iwata had a spectacular career at Nintendo, leading the charge on the Nintendo DS and Wii (the bestselling handheld and third highest selling home consoles of all time). He was a hands-on leader with a playful spirit that fit with the company as a whole.

He was a massive force in the video game industry and his absence will be felt for years to come.
