Yosemite Instant Handoff

Mac OS X Yosemite, or OS X 10.10 for those who like the number 10, brings some pretty deep integrations with Apple's iOS 8 devices. Among its many great features, I'm really enjoying Instant Hotspot. My Comcast service is a little spotty, so it's always been nice to use my phone has a backup data connection[^1]. That used to be a bit of a hassle that included a bunch of taps each time. Now my Mac can see my iPhone is close and does all the hard work for me.

What used to be a pain is now almost painless. Isn't that exactly what advances in computing are supposed to do?

EDIT: I had forgotten that I'm running the 8.1 beta. This feature will not work quite as I wrote above until Monday when it is released to the general public.

[^1]: Unlimited data on T-Mobile is pretty great.
