Global Payments to acquire EVO for $4 billion

Global Payments is to acquire smaller rival EVO Payments for nearly $4 billion in an all-cash deal that will extend its reach in the B2B sector. Headquartered in Atlanta, EVO currently offers merchant acquiring and paymens processing services to more than 550,000 merchants in over 50 markets and 150 currencies.

I share this article because I would bet that most people reading this site have now idea who Global Payments or EVO Payments are, let alone that the smaller of these is worth $4 billion and has a half million merchants using them.

Yet these are two very familiar names in my day job at NMI, another very large payment company you’ve likely never heard of outside of my resume 😋

Our corner of the internet occasionally veers into talking about payments, and whenever that happens I try to speak up and share what I know as a relative expert in the field (although there’s tons I don’t know either). I don’t think everyone who follows Apple needs to be a payments expert, but I’ll continue to do my best to clear up misconceptions about the industry whenever I can.
