Smudging My XDR Display
Mark Gurman: Imagine a $199 iPhone
The company could go with a foldable 20-inch screen attached to a physical keyboard or just have one side of the display serving as a virtual keyboard. I’m told Apple has indeed been exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid that would take the second approach. It would trade in the physical keyboard and trackpad for a fully touch-screen base.
After years of arguing that Apple could bring touch to macOS without losing what makes the Mac a Mac (and seemingly not convincing many skeptics along the way), Apple may be going way further than any of us expected. Gurman suggests a 2026 release window so it’s almost impossible to say how accurate this is, but I’ve even touched my MacBook Pro’s screen a few times instinctually, only to slap my forehead with a full Homer Simpson “d’oh!” so touch would be very welcome in my book.
