HBO Now is Available on Your Apple Devices...Now

HBO Now launched today and is exclusive to Apple devices and Optimum customers[1]. Specifically, you can install the app from the App Store on your iPhone or iPad, and it will be on your Apple TV automatically the next time you turn it on.

My initial impressions are that it’s just like HBO Go, but with a slightly nicer app. My few strams so far (Game of Thrones and Last Week Tonight) went flawlessly. The only gripe I have so far is that Chromecast support is not there out of the box. This has been a part of HBO Go for a long time, and is likely part of their deal with Apple, so once this timed exclusive ends, I would expect that feature to come back.

Overall, I’m very excited to have this as a real option out there in the world. And since it’s running on MLB’s awesome streaming platform, I fully expect it to stand up to high demand shows like the Game of Thrones premiere.

  1. An odd second launch partner, to say the least.  ↩
