I Hope the AirPods Max Don’t Lose the Crown

AirPods Max 2 could feature touch controls instead of a Digital Crown

Touch controls on AirPods Max 2 could make it easier to jump songs, invoke Siri, turn the volume up or down, and more. As of now, having the Digital Crown is still a pretty clever and unique feature to Apple’s premium headphones.

I’m willing to being happily surprised here, but I think the crown on the AirPods Max is a really good input method. There’s an assuredness I have when pausing or changing the volume on them that I really enjoy, and I’d hate to lose it.

My hopeful changes are pretty minimal:

  1. Let me connect with a wire and have an inline mic. Currently Apple sells one cable for connecting wired, and it does not support any mic input.
  2. Any sort of better charging solution. Lightning is less convenient by the day, and as Apple moves their other products to USB-C and MagSafe, it’s less convenient by the day to keep a lIghtning cable around for these headphones.
