Statamic is Now Wilderborn
The guys behind Statamic, one of my favorite CMS's, separated their company name from their product. They announced the change in a blog post today. They're now Wilderborn.
Now, this is yet another name that I'm pretty sure isn't a word, but I'll let it

St. Louis Rams' Daren Bates Goes for the Freaking Gold
St. Louis Rams linebacker, Daren Bates has my new favorite move in the NFL. He races up to the line of scrimmage, leaps over the center right as the ball is snapped, and blocks the kick...if they even get a chance to kick it! He's done it a couple times. This was
He's the Computer Man
There are few geekier computer videos out there. There are also few more delightful.
Even Android Fans Wish They Had the iPhone's Camera
Phone Arena ran a blind test comparing the iPhone 6 Plus camera with the shooter on the Nexus 6 and their results were surprising. The Nexus 6 was selected as having the better photos in 77% of the comparisons. This is pretty drastic when most reviewers bemoaned the average camera of the Nesux 6 while
I Might Cut the Cord in 2015
I've been wanting to "cut the cord" from cable TV for years now, and it looks like 2015 will finally be the year I can try it. If I were a single guy, I probably would have cut the cord a year or two ago. However, since I'm a
Metal Gear Solid Pixel Art
This was made by tenpoundpixel on DeviantArt and is a delight.
Withings Activité Pop
I almost titled this post "OMFG I MUST HAVE THIS NOW" but I resisted.
The brand new Withings Avtivité Pop is the activity tracker I have dreamed of. It's beautiful, looks just like a regular, classy watch, and tracks everything you could want. It looks perfect, and the $150 price tag
Building My First iPhone App - Day 1
2015 is the year I am going to learn to write an iPhone app. I have an idea for an app that I would like to use, and it’s something simple enough that I could make it very quickly after learning the basics. I’m sure there will be complications along the way, but
Games You Should be Looking Forward to in Early 2015
The first few months of the year are traditionally slow months for video games. Sadly, 2015 appears to be more of the same in this regard, but fear not, there are some big games worth taking a look at this spring. Here's a breakdown of some of the best bets for digital entertainment
Get Moving
It's the new year, and I have been stuck mostly at home, sick as a dog these last few days. It's a profoundly depressing time to feel bad. This is when I should be seizing the day! I should be out in the world making all the great changes that I
Nobody Tells This to Beginners
This quote is hugely important and powerful to young creatives. If you are even having these thoughts that your work isn't good enough, you're heading down the right road. Stick with it.

Tools & Toys on the Misfit Flash
I love the Tools & Toys website. It's a classy gadget-recommendation site from Shawn Blanc, Bradley Chambers, and Chris Gonzalez, I read everything they post, and I typically agree with them.
Today they recommended the Misfit Flash as a good entry-level fitness tracker. I'll give them credit for saying
President Obama Poses for the First 3D Presidential Portrait
Barack Obama posed for the first ever 3D presidential portrait. He did it for the Smithsonian, and I can only imagine this will become standard practice for future presidents. And why are they doing this? Gunter Waibel, the director of the Smithsonian digitization explains:
This is the first bust that's created of a
The Reformed Sojourner
I don't normally link to religious websites, but my dad just started blogging at The Reformed Sojourner. The site just opened last month, and there are a copule posts there to give you an idea of what to expect.
This blog will focus on my sense of sojourning through a foreign land as
Kanye West and Paul McCartney Release Their First Collaboration
Kanye West and Paul McCartney have been working together since sometime last year, and today they released the first fruits of their labors. You never know what you're going to get from Kanye, and Only One is no exception. It appears that this is the first single from his 2015 album, and if
A New Year, a New CMS
You may notice that it looks a little different around here today.
As I mused on last week's podcast, I did decide to move this site to Squarespace. For the past year, BirchTree has proudly run on Statamic. Oddly enough, I actually started using Statamic because Squarespace had driven me crazy. So why
Facing the Right Direction
It would appear to be that time of year again. The time everyone makes their new year's resolutions. Woo hoo!
I'm not immune to this phenomenon by any means. I make at least one resolution most years, but I don't typically share them in any public setting. I get
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker as a GameBoy Game
This creation by Johan Vinet is spectacular. I don't own a Wii U, but I do have a GBA around here somewhere. Would play.
